Compulsory Purchase, Pipelines and Telecoms

Road Schemes

The Government is committed to its biggest road-building and improvement scheme for decades and this will involve the extensive use of compulsory purchase powers over private property. Durrants can provide affected parties with specialist compulsory purchase advice to get the maximum value for their property from the compensation system. We have been involved in a number of recent highway schemes including the Norwich Northern Distributor Road, A47 dualling by Highways England, the Beccles Southern Relief Road and the Lake Lothing third Crossing in Lowestoft.

Utilities – Gas, Water, Electricity, Sewerage

We provide our clients with a comprehensive service in respect of schemes involving the placement and maintenance of overhead or underground construction works including electricity cables and pylons, fibre-optic cables, pipelines (gas, water, sewerage and oil) and private utilities.

Durrants has detailed knowledge of legislation applicable to all utilities proposals and our aim is to ensure that our clients are fully and appropriately compensated for any disturbance, inconvenience and substantiated loss incurred by these schemes. We offer advice on reinstatement issues and any drainage defects which may result from the works and have been involved in a number of recent schemes including the Vanguard and Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farms, Sizewell B Power Station, numerous Anglian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water pipeline schemes, National Grid mains gas pipeline projects and various UK Power Networks  schemes.

Railways

With major rail line routes connecting Norwich, Ipswich, Cambridge and London and other lines between local towns such as Diss, Beccles, Halesworth and Wymondham, we have vast experience with advising our clients on various railway schemes. These are predominantly for works carried out by Network Rail and we can advise clients on a range of matters including licences for access and compounds, compensation for any damage to land by the works and ensuring reinstatement following  works.

Flood Alleviation

With a client base predominantly in Norfolk and Suffolk and with 125 miles of complex river systems and the Broads National Park being located across the two counties, Durrants has great experience in advising clients on a range of flood alleviation projects that are carried out annually. As part of the Broadland Flood Alleviation Project, the Environment Agency and BESL carry out a number of projects including crest raising, pilling removal, flood bank strengthening, etc., and we can advise clients on a range of matters including licences for access and compounds, compensation for any damage or land lost by the works and ensuring reinstatement following works.

Telecom Masts

We have a dedicated team of professional, experienced individuals who can deal with complex areas of the telecommunications sector and can provide comprehensive advice on the various legislation involved, including the new Electronic Communications Code 2017. We offer advice to a wide range of land and property owners to help maximise their opportunities if they are affected by telecommunication operators. We offer a range of services and typically including, new site acquisitions and consultancy advice, lease renewals, rent reviews, valuation and site clearance and removal.
