Open Farm Sunday, managed by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), is one of the farming industry’s biggest success stories. Since the first Open Farm Sunday in 2006, over 1000 farmers across the UK have opened their gates and welcomed people onto their farm for one Sunday each year. It is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old, to discover at first hand what it means to be a farmer and the fabulous work they do producing our food and managing the countryside.
Durrants were pleased to be asked to help at Shotford Hall, near Harleston. We spent the day telling people what we do in the countryside and how we help farmers manage their businesses and the farmland they occupy. We held a valuation completion including farm machinery and livestock. The results are currently being sorted and hopefully we will be able to announce the winners shortly!
The event was attended by over 5,000 people who enjoyed sheep shearing demonstrations, farm machinery, livestock, tours of the farm and an explanation of what happens on livestock and arable farms. Glorious sunshine meant that many stayed for the day and enjoyed locally produced food prepared by local farmers!
